Our History

Since the beginning, Lutheran Men in Mission has been about encouraging men to grow deeper in their relationship with Christ.

During the merger of the American Lutheran Church (ALC), the Lutheran Church in America (LCA), and the Association of Evangelical Lutheran Churches (AELC) in 1988, there was an action item to create a mens organization for the new lutheran denomination, and this organization has come to be known as Lutheran Men in Mission.

As a division of adult ministry for the ELCA, LMM was able to effectively reach men in the ELCA congregations through the 9 Regions and 65 synods.

In 2003, LMM helped research the spirituality of young men, which resulted in the book Coming of Age  being produced.

In the mid-2000s, work began to move LMM into it’s own separate 501(c)3.  In 2008, LMM became a separately incorporated 501(c)3 with the mission of creating bold, daring followers of Jesus Christ.

In the late 2000s, LMM launched the One Year To Live retreat.

Today, LMM continues to work with men all over North America to help create bold daring followers of Jesus Christ!
